Coolidge family letters

Abstract Letters of three generations of the Coolidge family, poor folks with little education and less fluency with pen and ink. Business and legal documents and letters present a picture of marginal success as well as perennial failure. The earliest letters portray family life, cares and problems, including hazards of travel and weather in rural New England in the 19th century.

Scope and Contents Four archival boxes of materials belonging to Isaac N. Wadleigh, born Sept. 4, 1827, died Oct. 13, 1899. Two boxes contain only annual journals; a third contains letters, both business and personal. Legal agreements, bills and receipts, insurance, Church and fraternal materials, town publications, deposit slips and so forth are found in Box #2.
