Scope and Contents Includes two holograph letters (separated by vertical folds) written by shipwreck survivor Sarah Goodwin, dated August 6 and 16, 1865. The letters describe the shipwreck of the sidewheel steamship Golden Rule on Roncador Reef off the coast of Nicaragua. Following the breaking up of the ship on the reef, the passengers escaped via life rafts and were shipwrecked for 11 days.
