Biographical / Historical

The silent film, Movie Queen, was made as part of a fund-raiser for the Middlebury Chamber of Commerce in 1939. The film includes many local Middlebury people and scenes of downtown, with very little plot. There are visits to a few local businesses, a parade, a few plays from a college football game, and Middlebury businessmen playing gangsters in a slapstick kidnapping. The film was shown in the middle of a live stage play performed by local residents. Participants in the film include Ruth Hubbard, Betty Jewett, George Snow, and Edward Romeo. The film was most recently included at the conclusion of Middlebury Remembers, a video of a presentation at the Town Hall Theater in Middlebury, VT, during the theater's renovation in 2001.
