Biographical / Historical

Per a conversation with Jeff Rehbach, (JR), February 13, 2017: JR began his career at MC as Systems Librarian, and reported to College Librarian Ron Rucker. In 1995, JR moved to User Services and Academic Computing, reporting to Dean of the College, Eric Davis. At that time the DOC was responsible for the development and content of the College's website. Beginning in 1995, the Academic Computing initiative was to network the entire campus, beginning with dormitories Stewart, Hepburn, and Gifford. Academic and Administrative Computing merged in the late 1990s, and at that time JR became Director of Information and Technology Services (ITS), under Eric Davis. Prior to the merger, Administrative Computing, directed first by Norm Hadley and then Ron McKinnen, managed the AS400 system and reported to Treasurer David Ginevan. Once ITS was formed, Eric Davis, JR, and other administrators searched to replace the AS400, formed MINERVA, and eventually adopted Banner, the collegiate administrative suite, a single database designed to support the administrative needs of all Middlebury's institutions. Around 2002, ITS merged with Library computing, which became Library and Information Services (LIS). Oversight shifted from the Dean of the College to the Office of the Provost, who was then Ron Liebowitz. As of 2015, the Library and ITS are once again separate entities, and ITS is under the oversight of the Vice President of Finance and Treasurer.
