Biographical / Historical
The first Bread Loaf Writers' Conference was held in the summer of 1926, only six years after the opening of the Bread Loaf School of English. It is the oldest writers' conference in the United States, and has led the way for the establishment of creative writing in higher education. Today, the conference is heavily involved in environmental writing and literary translation.
