Scope and Contents The collection consists primarily of two journals and letters from Fisk to fellow missionaries, describing his journey to the Middle East, encouraging them to join him, and telling them what to expect and how to prepare, and what languages to study. The two Pliny Fisk journals at Middlebury (1821-1823, 1823-1824) plus the journal excerpts from 1820-1821, represent Fisk's experiences as a pioneering American missionary in the Middle East.
