Biographical / Historical
Middlebury's first student publication was a newspaper, The Undergraduate (S9.1), and was one of the first college newspapers in the U.S., debuting in 1830. Though it failed to survive past the first year, The Undergraduate reappeared in 1876, running until 1902. Following The Undergraduate, students revived the newspaper under the name, The Middlebury Campus (S9.3), in 1905 and has continued to present day. Middlebury's yearbook, The Kaleidoscope (S9.2), was first published in 1873, then sporadically until 1909, when annual publication was established. A more recent collection of student publications includes Zines and Ephemera, (S9.4) created by students either at events or in private, covering a variety of topics. Other student publications such as Sweatervest, Blackbird, Fireside Magazine, The Crampus, Middlebury Geographic, Translingual Magazine, and others are listed by date and filed under "Miscellaneous Publications."
