Biographical / Historical
Originally known as the Development Program, the division of College Advancement, named in 2002, is the fundraising entity of Middlebury College. The Vice President for College Advancement reports to the President of the College and serves as the chief advancement officer and executive leader of the college advancement division. The primary purpose of College Advancement is to utilize a broad institutional perspective to align its efforts and resources to raise philanthropic support, and to successfully fundraise to meet strategic goals and the mission of the College.
During a transitional period, when the Public Affairs office (now Communications (2017)) was considered part of the fundraising office, the Advancement office was known as External Affairs (1994-2001) and Institutional Advancement (2001-2002) before it acquired its current title as College Advancement.
