Biographical / Historical

William Carlos Williams (1883-1963) was an American modernist and imagist poet. Williams was also a physician affiliated with Passaic General Hospital in Passaic, New Jersey (now St. Mary's), where he served as chief of pediatrics until his death in 1924. In addition to poetry, Williams also wrote novels, plays, essays, and translations.

Williams was a member of the Bread Loaf Writer's Conference staff in 1941.

The typescript drafts in this collection are for "In the Money: White Mule II," the sequel to "White Mule" and the second volume in the "Stecher" trilogy. These three novels follow the lives of the Stecher family, immigrants in New York at the turn of the 20th century.
