Biographical / Historical
The Wyman Parker collection on Leonard Baskin was compiled by Wyman Parker, a librarian, book collector, and friend of Leonard Baskin. Leonard Baskin (1922-2000) was an American sculpter, printer and engraver. Baskin attended Yale Art School and became inspired by the work of William Blake to create his own books. Baskin founded the Gehanna Press in 1942, and printed works that were illustrated with woodcuts, etchings, and lithographs. Baskin taught art at Smith College and Hampshire College. Baskin collaborated with Ted Hughes on a number of projects, spending nine years in Devon to be closer to him.
