The Abernethy manuscript miscellany collection is comprised of 19 boxes (18 regular and 1 oversize) organized alphabetically by author last name. This collection includes original manuscript and typescript letters and writings from American authors throughout the 19th and 21st centuries. Transcriptions of original manuscript letters are available for some items.

Biographical / Historical
Frederic Franklyn Van de Water (1890-1896) was an American journalist and writer. Van de Water wrote books as well as for Harper's Magazine and contributed stories to pulp fiction magazines such as Colliers. Van de Water was an honorary sergeant in the New York State Troopers. In 1924, he travelled to the West Indies and reported on rum pirates and Chinese smugglers.
