Biographical / Historical
Marissel Hernández-Romero served as Visiting Assistant Professor of Luso-Hispanic Studies from 2017 to June, 2020. Hernández Romero holds a doctorate in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian Studies from The Graduate Center, CUNY. At Middlebury College she taught courses in Portuguese, Spanish, and on Latin American and Caribbean culture. She was the advisor of student organization ALIANZA. Her research addresses various topics about black masculinities, social inequalities, and urban planning through contemporary literature and music from Brazil, Cuba and Puerto Rico. Hernández-Romero left Middlebury in June, 2020, and upon her departure, sent an all-campus email without permission detailing racism she experienced at the college. The email was deleted from college server.
