Arrangement

Alumni files are arranged first by year of graduation, then by last name. Alumnae are filed by maiden name (name used when accepted to Middlebury). Alumni who have gone on to be staff, faculty, president, or trustee have files shelved within those designations.

Alumni files from 5 Court Street not yet added to the College Archives are arranged alphabetically by student's last name.

Other Finding Aids

Accruals

This collection grows through the workflow of Sara Marshall, Alumni Editor of Middlebury Magazine. Sara retrieves alumni files from the filing cabinets maintained by Advancement in order to write obituaries for the Magazine. She then deposits those files in Special Collections.

Separated Materials

In 2023, all alumni files were moved in filing cabinets out of 5 Court Street when the building was put up for sale. The filing cabinets were moved into Cage 1 in the basement of Davis Family Library. Files in the basement of Davis Family Library pertain to alumni up to the Class of 2014 who as of 2023, were still living.

Four cardboard boxes and four metal file drawer unites were added in May 2023.

Sara Marshall, Alumni Editor of Middlebury Magazine, routinely removes files from the cabinets pertaining to deceased alumni and transfers them to Special Collections after writing obituaries.

General
