Biographical / Historical

Barbara Ann Wells (1921-2018) graduated from Middlebury College in 1941. Wells returned to the College after graduating and served in various administrative appointments for over three decades. In 1946, Wells was hired as the Alumni Secretary and Placement Director for Women. In 1952, she became Director of Admissions for Women, and served in this position until 1964 when the admissions offices for men and women were combined. Wells served as Executive Secretary for the Ford Challenge Program in the Development Office from 1964 to 1968, as Secretary of the College from 1968 to 1976, and as a College Loan Officer from 1976 to 1983. Wells was born in Middlebury, VT to Nellie Mae Barnett Wells and Warden Henry Wells. She graduated from Middlebury High School in 1937.
