Biographical / Historical

Herbert Duncan Rollason, Jr. (1917-2014) was born to Herbert Duncan and Susan Hervey (Wales) Rollason in Beverly, Massachusetts, and graduated from Middlebury College in 1939. While at Middlebury, Rollason majored in biology and participated in the college choir and glee club. After graduating, he accepted a teaching fellowship in biology at Williams College, where he earned a master's degree in 1941. He then earned a doctorate in biology at Harvard University. Rollason married Grace S. Saunders in 1944 and the couple had two children: Mary Elizabeth and Herbert Duncan III.
