Correspondence includes sixteen letters (eight written by Boyle and eight written by Gatenby) from 1980 to 1984. Seven of Boyle's letters are handwritten, one is typed, and all of Gatenby's are typed. The letters primarily discuss literary works, and Boyle's desire to contribute to Gatenby's whale anthology, Whale Art.

Greg Gatenby (1950-) has been the Artistic Director of the International Festival of Authors at Harbourfront in Toronto since 1975. Gatenby is the author of Whales: A Celebration, The Wild is Here, and The Very Richness of that Past.
