Biographical / Historical
Wendell Francis Forbes (1927-1997) was born to Rupert J. and Katherine (McWhinnie) Forbes in Melrose Massachusetts, and graduated from Middlebury College in 1951. Forbes was a professional baseball player with the Allentown Cardinals, the Fort Lauderdale Lions, and the Meridian Millers from 1951 to 1955. He coached football, baseball, hockey, and golf at Middlebury College from 1962 to 1987, and was named the National College Hockey Coach of the Year in 1975. Forbes also served as Associate Professor of Physical Education from 1962 to 1987.
