Scope and Contents

The scrapbook includes tickets, brochures, and realia associated with the steamer ships on which they travelled: Cunard Lines, and the Mediterranean Line Steamer emanating from Naples; as well as ephemera associated with destinations in Europe and including postcards and realia associated with their accommodations. Their trip began in Paris and ended in Naples, and an itinerary is included. Also in the scrapbook is Elizabeth Burditt Parker's high school diploma, a 1925 football program from a Norwich/Middlebury game, a 1925 concert program for Dartmouth College Musical Clubs, and Caroline Mason Burditt Parker's passport, dated 1926.

Biographical / Historical

Elizabeth Burditt Parker graduated from Newton High School, Newton, MA., in June 1926, and then travelled in Europe from July through September 1926, returning to the states in time to attend Middlebury College. She travelled with her mother, Caroline Mason Burditt [Parker], Class of 1903; her aunt Frances Burditt (half-sister to Caroline, and just four years older than Elizabeth), UVM Class of 1926; and her mother's close friend, Agnes Smith. Caroline Mason Burditt [Parker] married John Earl Parker, Middlbury College Class of 1901. Their daughter Elizabeth Burditt Parker, Class of 1930, married Middlebury College Prof. of Philosophy John Thayer Andrews. Caroline Andrews, the donor of the scrabook and other Parker family collections (2013), is the daughter of Elizabeth and John Andrews.

All items donated by sisters Caroline and Kit Andrews.
