Prepared for college at Rochester High School in Rochester, MN. Entered Middlebury College in 1931. Member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. Graduate Student, University of Minnesota, 1935-1936, Student, Minneapolis College of Law, 1936-1940. Admitted to the bar, 1941. Salesman, St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Co., 1936-1940. Lawyer, Columbia Heights, MN, 1941. Partner, Helstein, Hall, Smith and Enkel, 1942-. Sergeant, Army, 1943-1946. Married Grace E. Nelson, April 1, 1939.
