Scope and Contents

This scrapbook contains memorabilia from Smith's college years, 1931-1935, including programs (plays, debate competitions including international debate against Oxford University and the University of Puerto Rico, the Parker Merrill speech competition, commencement exercises, church services, variety shows, class day, and sporting events), essays, numerous issues of the Middlebury Campus, various issues of independent and satirical publications (South Painter Gazette, Sig Ep Panther, Supmac Yrubelddim), bills, academic records, financial aid documents and other admissions materials, membership cards (Sigma Phi Epsilon, Blue Key, Mountain Club, Dramatic Club), and dance cards. The scrapbook also includes an extensive collection of materials related to fraternity rushing, an extensive collection of final examinations in subjects ranging from economics to philosophy, and a beanie. The scrapbook is unbound and items are stored in plastic sleeves.

Prepared for college at Rochester High School in Rochester, MN. Entered Middlebury College in 1931. Member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. Graduate Student, University of Minnesota, 1935-1936, Student, Minneapolis College of Law, 1936-1940. Admitted to the bar, 1941. Salesman, St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Co., 1936-1940.
