Scope and Contents
Includes two holograph letters written by Charles Barton Hill, an actor and theatre owner to Julia Foster and Livy Hill of Buffalo, NY in 1859. The letter to Foster, a dear friend of Hill's wife, suggests that the couple had been experiencing problems in their marriage.

Biographical / Historical
Charles Barton Hill (1828-1911) was a British-born actor and son of a theater manager/actor and a ballerina (Anne Fairbrother). The Hill family settled in Canada, but Barton Hill made his career as a leading man in the United States in the 1860s. He married actress Olivia Crook in 1851.
