Scope and Contents Two typescript, signed letters written by Stephen Vincent Benet, New York City, to Viola Chittenden White, curator of the Abernethy Library of American Literature at Middlebury College. The first letter (1939) serves at Benet's acceptance of White's invitation to speak at Middlebury College. The second (1940) discusses the subject of his lecture, "Poetry and History" or "Poetry and John Brown."
