Bellow, Saul

The Abernethy manuscript miscellany collection is comprised of 19 boxes (18 regular and 1 oversize) organized alphabetically by author last name. This collection includes original manuscript and typescript letters and writings from American authors throughout the 19th and 21st centuries. Transcriptions of original manuscript letters are available for some items.

Series contains typescript letters written by Cook to various authors and literary contacts, often with invitation for them to speak at the Bread Loaf School, as well as their replies. Notable contacts include E.E. Cummings, Robert Frost, William Carlos Williams, Saul Bellow, and Thornton Wilder.

One typescript letter written by Saul Bellow, University of Chicago, to Gary Jones, Lexington, Ohio, dated October 23, 1978. The letter discusses Bellow's writing of Herzog and the suicide of the poet John Berryman, a mutual friend.
