The Abernethy manuscript miscellany collection is comprised of 19 boxes (18 regular and 1 oversize) organized alphabetically by author last name. This collection includes original manuscript and typescript letters and writings from American authors throughout the 19th and 21st centuries. Transcriptions of original manuscript letters are available for some items.

Scope and Contents Four holograph letters written by George William Curtis to various recipients including Daniel Ricketson and [Benjamin?] Harrison. The letters are dated from 1858 to 1869. One letter, addressed "Dear Madame" and dated New York, Septebmer 10, 1858, discusses the possibility of Curtis delivering a lecture about women's rights. Of women's rights, Curtis writes, "I should rather, therefore, avoid as much as possible all advertisement of my lecture as a 'women's rights'...

Fourteen holograph letters written by Richard Henry Dana to various recipients including Rev. R.C. Waterson, George William Curtis, J.M. Earle, Mrs. Henry Wheaton, Eben Caldwell, Joseph Ricketson, Thomas R. Kimball, and George Livermore. Also includes one letter written to Dana from William A. Wheeler. The letters are dated between 1846 and 1878.

Scope and Contents Includes typescript and holograph letters written by Henry David Thoreau to various recipients, college essays written by Thoreau, transcriptions of journal entries written by Thoreau, and poems and fragments also written by Thoreau. Correspondents include Franklin Benjamin Sanborn, H. G. O. Blake, Helen Thoreau, Horatio R. Storer, David (?) Heard, W. & C. H.
