Scope and Contents Includes one bound manuscript diary kept by a young Vermont man between approximately 1850 and 1852. The author of the diary describes his life in New England as well as his travels by rail and stage to New York City and Georgia. The author appears to have lived near Greenfield, VT, and hails from an affluent family with ties to New York City. He attended an academy in East Hampton, about which he wrote at length.
Scope and Contents Includes one holograph journal kept by Ichabod Peterson from October 1, 1859 to January 12, 1861. During the time he kept his journal, Peterson traveled from Boston, MA to Savannah, GA, and then on to Liverpool, England. He then sailed back to Savannah, then to New Orleans, LA, then across the Atlantic once more to Liverpool. He then embarked on the final and longest voyage covered by this journal, sailing from Liverpool around South America and on to San Francisco, CA. The jounral ends shortly ...
