Frederic Franklyn Van de Water (1890-1896) was an American journalist and writer. Van de Water wrote books as well as for Harper's Magazine and contributed stories to pulp fiction magazines such as Colliers. Van de Water was an honorary sergeant in the New York State Troopers. In 1924, he travelled to the West Indies and reported on rum pirates and Chinese smugglers.

This collection was gifted to the College by the author, whose son, Frederic Van de Water, Jr., graduated in 1947 (announcement of gift in The Campus, Volume XLV, Issue 24, April 21, 1949).
