Biographical / Historical

Chester M. Way (ca 1900-1973) grew up in Burlington, Vt. and earned a BS in economics at the University of Vermont in 1922. He joined the masons in 1923. Over the next couple decades he became a successful retailer: vice president and treasurer of Porter Screen Co., Burlington, Vt.; director of Continental Screen Co., Detroit, Mich.; director of the Green Mountain Mutual Fire Insurance Co., Montpelier, Vt.; owner of stores in Bristol and Bridport, Vt.; owner of the Fli-Rite School of Aviation in Swanton, Vt. until late 1949. In the mid 1940s he bought an inn in East Middlebury and re-named it the Waybury Inn. He was fond of boating, and seems to have owned boats beginning in his late 20s. He also aspired to be a writer of songs and plays. Some materials seem to have been written under the pseudonym Roiden Kranz. He married Marjorie Scott about 1928. He died in 1973.
